Common water-plantain is a stout aquatic herb with elongated pointed leaves, which may be rounded at the base. The pinkish white flowers are borne on a greatly branching inflorescence, and open in the afternoon each day . The curvature of the ribs on the leaves of water plantain was one of the inspirational natural features used by John Ruskin in the development of his theories on gothic architecture; he claimed that they were models of 'divine proportion'. This low maintenance plant can be used for water, bog and pond gardens, or stream margins. Fruits and tubers are a good source of food for wild life. Foliage may cause skin irritation. Hardy in zones 5-10. This description is based on research and personal experiences. If you have additional information or disagree with what we list, please contact us with your comments
